Southern Loggin’ Times magazine Associate Editor Jessica Johnson visits Miller Timber, LLC located in Houlka, Mississippi. Roger Miller, 46, is a good old boy from Mississippi. He loves his wife, he loves his children, he’s grateful for what he has and he loves spending his days in a piece of equipment. Like many, he’s been in the woods all his life. He’s seen pretty much everything and while he’s very optimistic about the future, after surviving 2008 and 2009, he knows the key to success is being smart about his investments. About 10 years ago, Miller was just buying timber on his own, relying on contract loggers to get his wood cut. When he wasn’t getting the reliability and control he needed, he started his own logging crew. From there, he grew to two crews. The bottom fell out, and like nearly every other logger he felt the pinch.
