Southern Loggin’ Times magazine Managing Editor David Abbott travels to McRae, Georgia to visit Dopson Timber LLC. They’re not brothers, but they might as well be. Charlie Dopson, 43, has for a partner his nephew Timmy Dopson, 33. Charlie was his parents’ youngest child and Timmy was their oldest grandchild, just 10 years behind his uncle. Since the grandparents raised Timmy, they grew up more like brothers than anything else. The partners run three crews together under the banner of Dopson Timber LLC. Though only started when Charlie and Timmy went into business together a few years ago, this is just the most current iteration of a family entity that has been in business for 90 years, started by Charlie’s grandfather. “When I came along, my great-uncle had J.E. Dopson and Sons,” Timmy recalls.
