Southern Loggin’ Times magazine Managing Editor David Abbott travels to Doddridge, Arkansas to visit Hartline Farm and Timber. Michael Hartline, 50, just added a second crew to his company, Hartline Farm and Timber. The “Farm” part refers to the 100-odd head of cattle that Hartline’s father raises, though separate from the timber facet nowadays. Jerry Hartline started the company in 1978; his son Michael joined the crew after graduating high school in 1983, and took over the logging operations two years ago. Although the company had fielded multiple crews in the past, it had been operating just a single unit for the last several years, following a downsizing in the midst of the recession. Hartline only added the new second crew a few weeks before Southern Loggin’ Times visited in early October.
