Southern Loggin’ Times magazine Associate Editor, Jessica Johnson, visits Battle Lumber Company in Wadley, Georgia to get the scoop on Battle’s new addition of a small log timbers mill. The mill features a sharp chain primary breakdown system with an innovative feed system. Thomas Battle is a third generation Southern lumberman, that prefers to run a family oriented company with close ties to his employees, “We have a lot of guys in all divisions of our operations who have been a part of our team for more than 20 years. Without these guys and all of our employees, we wouldn’t be successful.” Battle’s primary objective for the expansion is to produce large numbers of railroad ties as well as to expand output of industrial products while using a smaller log than what the Battle Lumber grade mill uses. Throughout the story, Johnson covers the preparation for the expansion, the future the new mill has in store and the operations of Battle Lumber Co.
