Southern Loggin’ Times Associate Editor Jessica Johnson has the opportunity to visit Larry Morgan Logging Contractor in Fordyce, Arkansas. Larry Morgan is one of those guys that people just want to be around. At 70, he’s seen a whole lot and done even more. The old saying, “With age comes experience and wisdom,” is definitely true for Morgan. He’s been logging nearly all his life. “I would help my dad out in the summers when I didn’t have school when I was small. Then I got big enough to work, so I skidded logs with a team,” Morgan remembers. This was, of course, before there were laws in place to keep kids out of the woods. Upon graduating high school in 1960, Morgan headed for the woods full time to work for his dad. He made a few different job changes through the years, but he always ended up back logging with his dad. On January 1, 1981 he bought his dad out of the logging business completely and started Larry Morgan Logging Contractor, Inc.
